Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Faculty of Pharmacy organized and hosted a training seminar titled “Guiding Pharmacist” in collaboration with the Cyprus Turkish Pharmacists Association (KTEB). Held at Green Hall in the EMU Faculty of Pharmacy, the said seminar addressed topics such as professional role modeling and expectation management, patient safety, communication and teamwork, and leadership. The seminar was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bilge Sözen Şahne from the Department of Pharmacy Management, Faculty of Pharmacy, Hacettepe University.
Commencing with a moment of silence and the National Anthem, the event continued with an opening speech delivered by the Chairperson of KTEB, Pharmacist Duygu Karahan Kuran. In her remarks, Kuran expressed her satisfaction with the organization of the event and extended her thanks to the EMU Faculty of Pharmacy. Emphasizing that educational activities constitute a lifelong process, Kuran underlined the importance of such events in terms of professional development and continuity
Subsequently, Prof. Dr. H. Ozan Gülcan, Dean of EMU Faculty of Pharmacy, delivered a speech, noting that, along with its education and academic endeavors, the faculty continues to organize workshops and seminars that are focused on the future of pharmacy profession. Prof. Dr. Gülcan stated that the seminar was in line with the student workshop held in March, noting that the primary aim of the event was to share knowledge that would facilitate the duties of practicing pharmacists, particularly during internship processes. Prof. Dr. Gülcan also extended his gratitude to the Chairperson of KTEB, Pharmacist Duygu Karahan Kuran, for her contributions to the seminar, and to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bilge Sözen Şahne, a faculty member of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Hacettepe University, for delivering the training.
Within the scope of the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bilge Sözen Şahne presented an in-depth overview of professional role modeling, expectation management, patient safety, communication and teamwork, and leadership. She further assessed ways to improve the effectiveness of pharmacist–student collaboration during community pharmacy internships, addressing scientific, clinical, patient-centered, and social aspects.
During the seminar, it was emphasized that the importance of professional training has increased in line with rapid technological advancements and emerging practices. Attention was also drawn to the need for more effective implementation of internship activities—an essential component in the training of future pharmacists—through strengthened collaboration between academia and the field.
At the end of the seminar, a plaque was presented to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bilge Sözen Şahne by the EMU Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Prof. Dr. H. Ozan Gülcan. The event concluded with the presentation of certificates to participants and a commemorative group photo.
