“Atatürk Devrimlerinin İzinde: Çağdaşlaşma ve Yenilik” Panel Held at EMU Faculty of Law in Memory of Prof. Dr. Esin Konanç

A panel was organized in memory of late Esin Konanç, a Criminal Law Professor, who had significantly contributed to the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Law, but sadly passed away in 2009 due to a traffic accident. Held for the 16th time this year, the panel was organized in collaboration with Atatürk Ideology Club, Law Club and EMU Faculty of Law with the title of “Atatürk Devrimlerinin İzinde: Çağdaşlaşma ve Yenilik / On Track of Atatürk’s Revolutions: Modernization and Innovation”. Acting Dean of EMU Faculty of Law Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arzu Alibaba chaired the said panel event.

Delivering the first speech of the panel, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bezar Eylem Ekinci delivered a presentation titled “Cumhuriyet Dönemi Kanunlaştırma Hareketlerinin Düşünsel Temeli / The Intellectual Foundations of Legislative Movements During the Republican Era” examining the philosophical background of the legal reforms introduced after the founding of the Republic and highlighting the impact of Atatürk’s modernization vision on these transformations.

Then, Assist. Prof. Dr. Emine Koçano Rodoslu – Vice Dean of EMU Faculty of Law – delivered “Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’ün Hukuk Devriminde Türk Medeni Kanunu’nun Yeri ve Önemi / Role and Importance of Turkish Civil Code on the Legal Revolution of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk” presentation. Assist. Prof. Dr. Koçano Rodoslu highlighted the pivotal role of the Turkish Civil Code in modernizing society, explaining how it helped shape legal equality and the understanding of contemporary citizenship.

The final person speaking at the panel was EMU Faculty of Law academic staff member Assist. Prof. Dr. Nurcan Gündüz who delivered a speech titled “Cumhuriyetin İlk Ceza Kanunu / First Criminal Code of the Republic”, approaching the reforms held in criminal law and their contributions in establishing the new state order.

The event ended with a question and answer session and was notable as a meaningful gathering held to commemorate Prof. Dr. Esin Konanç and continue her academic legacy.
