Center of Research and Communication for Peace (BAIM) operating under Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Communication organized a seminar titled “Ethical Issues in Media”. The event which took place on 22 October 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at Aysel Aziz Conference Hall, attracted great interest from students, academics and media professionals.
Attending the event as a speaker, Aysu Basri Akter – Chair of Media Ethics Board and EMU Faculty of Communication, Department of Cinema and Television academic staff member – shared her experiences on media ethics as a journalist, producer and academician. Akter emphasized that accurate information and the protection of the public interest constitute the foundation of an ethical approach in journalism.
“Ethics is the Conscience of Media”
In her speech, Akter stressed the responsibilities of media professionals, remarking, “Ethics is the conscience of media. The way how news are presented impact the perception of the public, just as the accuracy of it”.
Concluding the seminar, Akter engaged with the students and shared professional guidance with those studying communication. She noted, “Journalism is more than the act of generating news; it entails a responsibility to society. Upholding ethical principles in the presentation of information is of vital importance”.
