Fatma Sarı, a 2016 graduate of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature Teaching within the Faculty of Education at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), is proud to return to the campus where her literary journey began—this time as an experienced educator and a published author.
After beginning her undergraduate studies at EMU in 2011 and graduating in 2016, Sarı further advanced her academic career by successfully completing a master’s degree at the university. During this period, she cultivated her passion for literature through both academic research and creative writing, publishing works in international journals and numerous other media outlets.
The First Book in Her Writing Journey
Alongside her work in various educational institutions, Sarı has remained actively engaged in literary production. She first met readers through her debut poetry collection Kırılganlık Atlas / The Atlas of Fragility. Building on this achievement, she further expanded her literary portfolio with the children’s book titled Renklerini Kaybeden Gökkuşağı / The Rainbow That Lost Its Colors, establishing her own distinctive voice in literary world.
Humanity, Friendship, and Hope at the Forefront
In her works, Sarı explores themes of personal inner journeys and social solidarity. Through her poetry, she reveals the strength hidden within human vulnerability, while her children’s book highlights the values of friendship and hope. Describing her writing process as being shaped by “a pain worth telling” and “a hope that deserves to be shared,” Sarı defines writing not as a choice, but as a way of life.
A Visit to EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç
During her visit to EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç, Sarı presented her books Kırılganlık Atlası and Renklerini Kaybeden Gökkuşağı, two significant milestones in her literary career, to Prof. Dr. Kılıç.
Addressing Prof. Dr. Kılıç during the meeting, Sarı remarked that the academic knowledge and cultural enrichment she acquired at EMU had made a valuable contribution to her personal and professional development. She added that she was delighted to maintain her ties with the University. In turn, Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç congratulated Sarı on her achievements and noted that the accomplishments of EMU alumni across diverse fields remain a great source of pride for the university.
