Proudly holding the distinction of being the first university established in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) continues to strengthen its respected position in a variety of prestigious global university rankings through its strong academic staff and outstanding research capacity. According to the results announced on Thursday, 18 June 2026, at 02:01 a.m., EMU was ranked 691st among 1,504 universities from more than 100 countries, once again earning the distinction of being the highest-ranked university in the TRNC.
Ranking ahead of 54.1% of the universities evaluated worldwide, EMU also achieved a notable distinction by placing 10th among the 28 Turkish universities included in the rankings.
EMU Stands Out Through the Impact of Its Scientific Publications
The QS World University Rankings 2027, published by the UK-based organization QS, were compiled using data from 21 million academic papers and 222 million citations gathered in partnership with Elsevier, one of the world’s leading providers of information and analytics. Ranked among the leading institutions in the QS World University Rankings 2027 and recognized globally for its international character, EMU climbed six places compared to the previous year in the International Students Ratio indicator, reaching 13th place worldwide.
EMU also advanced five places in the Employment Outcomes indicator, ranking 310th globally in this category. The University’s strongest performance areas include International Students Ratio, where it achieved a perfect 100/100 score, International Faculty Ratio with 86.5/100, and International Research Network with 61.5/100, highlighting EMU’s strong international outlook and global academic engagement.

Commenting on the achievement, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç stated that they take great pride in EMU maintaining its position as the highest-ranked university in the TRNC in the QS World University Rankings 2027.

At the same time, the improvement we have achieved in graduate employability and international visibility further reinforces the worldwide reputation and value of an EMU diploma.
