Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Architecture has achieved another significant milestone that further strengthens its international standing in architectural education. Prof. Dr. Rafooneh Mokhtarshahi Sani, Chair of the EMU Department of Architecture, has been appointed as the Chair of the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) 2026 International Certification Criteria Revision Task Force. In this regard, Prof. Dr. Sani will serve in this prestigious role from February 2026 through December 2027.

This appointment follows Prof. Dr. Sani’s three consecutive years of service on the NAAB International Committee. Throughout her tenure, she received multiple invitations to continue serving on the committee in recognition of her academic contributions and professional performance. International Success of EMU Department of Architecture

EMU Department of Architecture is among the prominent architecture programs in the region that hold both the NAAB International Certification from the United States and the MİAK Accreditation from Türkiye. Since 2016, the Department has maintained its distinction as the only architecture program on the island accredited by NAAB International. It also stands out as the first architecture department in Cyprus to receive MİAK Accreditation, a status it has successfully maintained since 2011. With its internationally accredited curriculum, distinguished academic staff, and multicultural learning environment, the EMU Department of Architecture continues to educate architects who are well-equipped to compete and succeed on a global scale.
