Co-organized by the Psychological Counseling and Guidance Club operating under the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Student Development, Events and Sports Affairs Directorate and the Guidance and Psychological Counseling Program under the Department of Educational Sciences of Faculty of Education, the 5th Guidance and Counseling Chronicles event was held with the theme of “Sports Psychology”. Bringing academics, students and sports professionals together, the event featured comprehensive insights on theoretical and practical aspects of sports psychology.
Taking place at the Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall, the 5th Guidance and Counseling Chronicles event commenced with “Spor Psikolojisi Nedir? / What is Sports Psychology?” presentation delivered by Dr. Ziya Koruç from Hacettepe University. Dr. Koruç discussed the development of sports psychology, the psychological factors affecting athletes’ performance, and the role of mental preparation in achieving success. The program continued with a presentation by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sertan Kağan, faculty member of the EMU Department of Educational Sciences at Eastern Mediterranean University, “Egzersizin İnsan Psikolojisi Üzerine Olumlu Etkisi / The Positive Effects of Exercise on Human Psychology”. In his presentation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kağan examined the impact of regular physical activity on individuals’ mental well-being.
During a panel session held in the afternoon, Dr. Ayça Terzioğlu from Antalya Science University delivered a presentation on “Sporda Bilinçli Farkındalık / Sporting Mindfulness”. In her presentation, Dr. Terzioğlu emphasized the importance of athletes’ ability to remain present during performance and discussed the effects of mindfulness practices on attention control, emotional regulation, and the sustainability of athletic performance.
The program continued with a panel discussion featuring Dr. Ziya Koruç, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sertan Kağan, and Sami Hamidi, who shared their professional experiences in the field of sports and offered insights into the practical applications of sports psychology. Throughout the session, participants also had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion with the panelists.
Aviation Psychology Explored
The second day of the event took place at the Assist. Prof. Dr. Ali Hikmet Civelek Seminar Hall. The keynote speaker of the day, Dr. Ayça Terzioğlu from Antalya Science University, delivered a presentation titled “Kariyer Yolculuğu (Havacılık Psikolojisi): Teorik ve Uygulama /Career Journey (Aviation Psychology): Theory and Practice” in which she shared her experiences and insights into professional development with the participants. The two-day program concluded with the presentation of certificates to participants, followed by a volleyball tournament. Covering topics such as sports psychology, mindfulness, aviation psychology, and career development, the event attracted significant interest and provided a valuable platform for knowledge sharing.
