Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) celebrated the social, cultural, sporting, and leadership accomplishments achieved by its students beyond the classroom through a distinguished ceremony. Hosted by the Student Development, Events and Sports Affairs Office at the EMU Beach Club, the “Student Excellence Night” brought together approximately 800 students in one venue, once again highlighting the University’s commitment to enriching student life.
The evening recognized the contributions of 70 student clubs, 60 international student societies, championship-winning university sports teams, student leaders, volunteers, and faculty advisors who played an active role in campus life throughout the academic year. Bringing students from different cultural backgrounds together on the same stage, the event served as a meaningful reflection of EMU’s international identity and dynamic campus culture.
A Year’s Dedication Honored in a Single Evening
Student clubs and international student societies that enriched campus life throughout the year through hundreds of social responsibility projects, cultural events, scientific activities, career programs, international gatherings, and volunteer initiatives were recognized with certificates of achievement.
The evening also celebrated athletes and coaches who achieved outstanding success at the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) University Sports Games and various national competitions, earning enthusiastic applause from attendees.
Certificates of achievement were presented to numerous university sports teams, athletes, and coaches who represented the University with distinction, including the Champion Men’s Volleyball Team, Champion Women’s Volleyball Team, Champion Swimming Team, Champion Men’s Tennis Team, Champion Women’s Tennis Team, Champion Badminton Team, Champion Football Team, and Champion Cycling Team.
In addition, members of the executive boards of student clubs, club advisors, presidents and executive members of international student societies, as well as society assistants, were recognized with certificates of achievement in appreciation of their dedicated contributions throughout the academic year.
“Success Is Part of the EMU Culture”
Speaking at the event, EMU Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu stated that the dedication and achievements demonstrated by the students are among the University’s greatest sources of pride. She noted that Eastern Mediterranean University not only equips its students with academic knowledge but also nurtures them as socially responsible, productive, and globally minded individuals.
On his address, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç stressed that universities are not institutions that solely deliver education, and stated; “Universities are places where friendships are formed, characters are shaped, and dreams take form. EMU is not just a university; it is a large family. What makes this family strong is your productivity, volunteer spirit, and achievements. Every student receiving an award here today is an important representative who carries the values of our University into the future”.
In a video message, Student Representative Council President Rahmi Direnç Sezer described EMU as a dynamic environment that offers its students not only education but also opportunities for leadership, entrepreneurship, and personal development. He also noted that efforts are continuing to ensure that the restructured Student Council evolves into a more sustainable and student-centered organization.
Following the speeches, hundreds of students received certificates of achievement during the ceremony, while students from different countries shared the excitement and celebrated together the spirit of unity, solidarity, and multiculturalism that defines university life.
With the participation of approximately 800 students, the Student Excellence Night powerfully demonstrated that Eastern Mediterranean University regards not only academic excellence but also social responsibility, volunteerism, cultural diversity, student leadership, and sporting achievement as integral parts of its institutional culture.
