Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Faculty of Health Sciences, Nutrition and Dietetics Department academic Ceren Gezer achieved a significant success by being the first Turkish Cypriot awarded with the “Professor” title in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics. Prof. Dr. Gezer, who was awarded the said title at the age of 39, has made significant contributions to numerous national and international scientific publications through her academic work at EMU since 2015. Her outstanding scientific productivity and research performance have also earned her several publication achievement awards.
Prof. Dr. Gezer’s achievement is considered to be more than an individual career accomplishment; it also represents a significant milestone for the Turkish Cypriot academic community and the field of Nutrition and Dietetics. Her academic work stands out for advancing science-based approaches to nutrition, promoting the wider adoption of evidence-based practices, and encouraging young researchers to engage in academic research.
In his remarks on the matter, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç described the promotion of EMU faculty member Prof. Dr. Ceren Gezer to the rank of Professor as a source of great pride for the University. He noted that Prof. Dr. Gezer’s scientific productivity, international academic recognition, and contributions to her field represent a remarkable achievement that reinforces EMU’s vision of becoming a leading research university. Prof. Dr. Kılıç also extended his best wishes for her continued success in her academic career.
EMU Faculty of Health Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Mehtap Malkoç highlighted Prof. Dr. Ceren Gezer’s significant academic contributions to both the Faculty and the Department. She emphasized that Prof. Dr. Gezer has played an important role in fostering a stronger research culture, improving the quality of scientific publications, and supporting the education of students, thereby making a valuable contribution to the Faculty. Prof. Dr. Malkoç added that this achievement represents a strong source of motivation in advancing the Faculty’s scientific objectives.
In her statement, EMU Department of Nutrition and Dietetics Chair Assist. Prof. Dr. Gözde Okburan emphasized that Prof. Dr. Gezer’s steady academic advancement is the result of her disciplined work ethic and strong scientific approach. Assist. Prof. Dr. Okburan noted that Prof. Dr. Gezer’s achievement will serve as an inspiration to the Department’s students and early-career academics, expressing her belief that this accomplishment will further strengthen the Department’s academic standing.
