EMU Faculty of Pharmacy Holds Professional Oath Ceremony for Graduates as It Celebrates Its 15th Anniversary

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Pharmacy organized an oath taking ceremony for its 2025-2026 Academic Year Spring Semester graduates on Tuesday, 7 July 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center.

The event was attended by Işıl Güler, Famagusta General Consul of the Republic of Türkiye; EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç; EMU Board of Trustees (VYK) Member Recai Ergün; EMU Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Osman M. Karatepe and Prof. Dr. Ali Öztüren; EMU General Secretary Derviş Ekşici; Hasan Boltaşlı, Famagusta Regional Director of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Civil Defence Organization; Prof. Dr. H. Ozan Gülcan, Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy; Prof. Dr. Mehtap Malkoç, Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences; Prof. Dr. Nilüfer Güzoğlu, Dean of Dr. Fazıl Küçük Medicine Faculty; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Işıl Ö. Kalyoncu, Dean of Faculty of Dentistry, as well as vice deans and department chairs.

Following a moment of silence and the national anthem, the program featured a musical performance by Music Teaching Program students Deniz Özkalay and Kubilay Patoğlu, under the guidance of Assist. Prof. Dr. Atakan Sarı, a faculty member of the Department of Fine Arts Education at EMU Faculty of Education. After the performance, the students were presented with flowers by Vice Deans of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet İlktaç and Assist. Prof. Dr. Jale Yüzügülen.

The ceremony program continued with speeches delivered on behalf of graduates by Şeyma Balandı and Seyedehmahnaz Hosseini, highest ranking students of MPharm and PharmD programs, respectively. Following their addresses, the graduates received their professional oath certificates and commemorative gifts from EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç and Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Osman M. Karatepe.

“To Assume Significant Responsibilities”

In his address, EMU Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Prof. Dr. H. Ozan Gülcan, noted that this year’s ceremony held special significance as it coincided with the 15th anniversary of the Faculty’s establishment. He stated that, for the past fifteen years, the Faculty has remained committed to educating compassionate healthcare professionals who uphold academic excellence, innovation, and the highest ethical standards. Prof. Dr. Gülcan described the professional oath as a meaningful commitment to integrity, professionalism, and ethical practice. He emphasized that today’s pharmacists are entrusted with responsibilities that extend well beyond dispensing medications, playing a vital role in patient counselling, promoting the rational use of medicines, and contributing to the overall well-being of society. He also highlighted the importance of lifelong learning and continuous professional development in keeping pace with scientific and technological advancements throughout one’s career. Concluding his remarks, Prof. Dr. Gülcan congratulated the graduates and their families, wishing them every success in their future professional endeavors.

In his speech, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç expressed his pleasure at sharing this important milestone with the graduates and congratulated them on successfully completing a demanding and rigorous academic journey. He emphasized that graduation signifies not only the completion of their studies but also the beginning of a lifelong commitment to safeguarding human health and serving society. Prof. Dr. Kılıç noted that EMU Faculty of Pharmacy is dedicated to educating highly qualified professionals who combine academic excellence with a strong commitment to ethical values. Describing pharmacy as a respected profession where science meets compassion, he stated that pharmacists play a far broader role than simply dispensing medicines—they are trusted healthcare professionals who guide patients and contribute to public health. Encouraging the graduates to embrace lifelong learning, uphold the highest ethical standards, and remain responsive to scientific and technological advances throughout their careers, Prof. Dr. Kılıç concluded by congratulating the graduates, their families, and the academic staff whose dedication had contributed to their success, wishing them continued achievement in their professional lives.

The ceremony concluded with a photo slideshow showcasing memorable moments from the graduates’ academic journey. This was followed by the presentation of their professional oath certificates and the recitation of the professional oath, marking the official beginning of their careers in pharmacy.
