Summer 2026 edition of the International Summer School organized by the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) has commenced. Coordinated by EMU Vice Rector for Promotion and Institutional Communication, Prof. Dr. Ali Öztüren, the summer school welcomed its new students on Monday, 13 July 2026 at 10:00 a.m. with an opening program held at the Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall.
Prof. Dr. Öztüren Expressed His Wish for Students to Create Lasting Memories
Delivering the opening remarks, EMU Vice Rector for Promotion and Institutional Communication Prof. Dr. Ali Öztüren expressed his pleasure in welcoming the participants to EMU and congratulated the students on joining this important program. Prof. Dr. Öztüren also thanked the team involved in organizing the Summer School and expressed his hope that the students would create many wonderful memories during their time at the university.
“Students from More Than 10 Different Countries”
In his speech, EMU Promotion and Marketing Director Murat Aktuğralı expressed his delight at welcoming students from more than 10 different countries as part of International Summer School 2026. He noted that during their stay in Northern Cyprus, participants will have the opportunity not only to build new friendships but also to experience different cultures firsthand. Emphasizing that the Summer School offers far more than an academic program, Aktuğralı underlined its role as a platform for cultural exchange. He encouraged the students to make the most of their time in Cyprus and concluded by expressing his confidence that the program would be an unforgettable experience for all participants.
“The Program Was Carefully Prepared to Ensure the Best Experience for Students”
Delivering a speech at the opening ceremony, Tanya Serenli Barkınay, Coordinator of EMU Summer School Educational Programs, welcomed all students participating in Eastern Mediterranean University International Summer School 2026 and expressed her pleasure at their participation in the program. Barkınay stated that the Summer School had been implemented following months of intensive preparation and emphasized that the academic staff, assistants, and organizing team had worked meticulously to provide students with the best possible experience. She noted that the program aims to offer participants a productive period both academically and socially, adding that translation support has been arranged for students speaking different languages.
During the opening ceremony, EMU Summer School Educational Programs Coordinator Tanya Serenli Barkınay also delivered a presentation and introduced the International Summer School to the participants. Translation support was also provided for students speaking different languages. At the conclusion of the ceremony, students were presented with hats, followed by a question-and-answer session during which participants’ questions were answered.
Bringing together young people from different cultures on the same campus, EMU International Summer School aims to provide participants with the opportunity to improve their English language skills, build international friendships, and gain unforgettable experiences, while also enabling them to discover the natural and cultural richness of Northern Cyprus.
