Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), in collaboration with Famagusta Municipality and the Association for Elderly Rights and Mental Health, organized a walking event through Famagusta’s historic Moat area with the aim of drawing attention to the city’s historic character and exploring its cultural heritage on site.
Organized as part of the activities planned within the framework of the cooperation protocol signed between EMU and Famagusta Municipality, the walk commenced at 7:30 p.m. from the Sea Gate, continued along the historic Moat route, and concluded at the Baykal Tunnel. The event was attended by EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç, Famagusta Mayor Dr. Süleyman Uluçay, EMU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu, members of the Association, staff members from EMU and Famagusta Municipality, as well as a large number of members of the public. During the event, participants had the opportunity to explore Famagusta’s historic city walls and the surrounding cultural heritage sites on foot.
Following the walk, a documentary about the Baykal Tunnel, one of Famagusta’s significant historic structures, was screened at the tunnel. At the end of the event, participants shared their views on the importance of preserving the city’s historical and cultural heritage and passing it on to future generations. Participants also agreed on the importance of promoting greater awareness of Famagusta’s historic sites and continuing to bring local residents together with the city’s heritage through similar events to be organized at these locations.
Held in collaboration with EMU, Famagusta Municipality and the Association for Elderly Rights and Mental Health, the event aims to contribute to increasing the visibility of Famagusta’s historical and cultural values while bringing together different segments of the community through shared activities.
