Artificial Intelligence (AI) Literacy Training Program co-organized by Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) and the Ministry of National Education has commenced on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, at EMU Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences. Through the training program which will continue until Friday, 11 September 2026, nearly 1500 teachers from pre-school education institutions, as well as primary and secondary schools and high schools around Famagusta region will receive training on AI literacy.
“Vital for Teachers to Adapt to the Digital Transformation Process”
Delivering a speech within the scope of the training program, EMU Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Osman M. Karatepe emphasized that the collaboration between EMU and the Ministry of National Education holds great importance in enabling teachers to adapt to the digital transformation process and to consciously and effectively utilize artificial intelligence technologies in teaching and learning processes.
Prof. Dr. Karatepe noted that, within the scope of the Artificial Intelligence Literacy Training Program carried out in collaboration between EMU and the Ministry of National Education, the program aims to provide training to teachers working at preschool education institutions, primary schools, secondary schools and high schools in the Famagusta region.
Trainings Delivered with Contributions from 13 Academics
Organized within the framework of an intensive and comprehensive program, the Artificial Intelligence Literacy Training Program is being delivered with contributions from 13 EMU academics who are experts in their respective fields. The EMU academics contributing to the preparation and implementation of the training program are Prof. Dr. Ahmet Rizaner, Prof. Dr. Ersun İşçioğlu, Prof. Dr. Yıltan Bitirim, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adnan Acan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emre Özen, Assist. Prof. Dr. Cem Yağlı, Dr. Özlem Görkan Evre, Dr. Yeşim Kapsıl Çırak, Dr. Sima Kaçmaz, Dr. Tansel Sarıhan, Mahmut Sevince, Mustafa Güler and Erce Öztürk.
The training program aims to familiarize teachers with the fundamental concepts and operating principles of artificial intelligence technologies, enable them to use artificial intelligence tools effectively and responsibly in teaching and learning processes, and raise their awareness of the opportunities these technologies offer in the field of education. The program also aims to enhance teachers’ knowledge and skills in the field of artificial intelligence, as well as to increase their awareness of the ethical, safe and responsible use of these technologies in educational environments.
With its robust academic structure and technological infrastructure, EMU aims to contribute to the digital transformation of the education system and enhance teachers’ professional competencies in future technologies through this important collaboration with the Ministry of National Education.
The training program, which will continue from 1 to 11 September 2026, is expected to make significant contributions to enhancing the knowledge, skills and awareness of teachers working at preschool, primary school, secondary school and high school levels, in the Famagusta region in the field of artificial intelligence.
