Eastern Mediterranean University’s (EMU) Özay Oral Library continues to share its wealth of academic knowledge with the world and contribute to public access to information through its rich collection, information services, and EMU Institutional Repository (EMU I-REP). Supporting the research and learning processes of students, academics, and the wider community, the library also helps preserve scholarly works and enhance their accessibility.
Academic Knowledge Reaches the World Through the Institutional Repository
University institutional repositories, which are becoming increasingly important today, serve as information systems where all types of written, visual, audio, and digital information and documents produced through academic and intellectual work are systematically collected, securely preserved, and shared with the world through open access as widely as possible, in accordance with copyright regulations.
Guided by the principle that knowledge should be shared, EMU Özay Oral Library is working to make academic content accessible on a global scale through its institutional repository system. The EMU Institutional Repository brings together and preserves student theses, academic publications, conference presentations, reports, book chapters, and other similar scholarly outputs, cataloguing them and making them systematically accessible to users around the world.
The EMU Institutional Repository provides open-access, full-text access to more than 4,000 master’s and doctoral theses produced since 2010 to users around the world. In addition, more than 8,000 academic publications by EMU faculty members—including journal articles, conference papers, books, and book chapters—indexed in the Web of Science (WoS) or Scopus databases have been catalogued and made accessible through the repository. While some of these publications are openly accessible and available directly in full text, publications that are not open access due to copyright restrictions can be accessed through the relevant databases via their DOI numbers by universities with the necessary subscriptions. “Cyprus-Focused Topics Are Widely Covered in Academic Research”
In his remarks on the matter, EMU Özay Oral Library Director Osman Soykan stated: “Cyprus-focused topics are extensively explored in both theses and academic articles. From this perspective, we believe there are many publications that may be of interest to the public. Academic research and outputs address a wide range of subjects related to the history, geography, politics, literature, and art of Cyprus.”

In addition to serving its students and academic staff, EMU Özay Oral Library also welcomes members of the public and opens its doors to researchers from Cyprus and around the world. Visitors from outside the university can make use of the library’s facilities and access resources such as electronic journals and e-books through the library.

EMU Özay Oral Library offers an extensive range of information resources, with a collection of more than 170,000 printed books, over 70,000 electronic journal subscriptions, and more than 400,000 e-books. Supporting the University’s educational and scientific research activities through its collections and information services, the Library contributes to meeting the information needs of students, academic staff, and the wider public.
By continuously enhancing its services with modern technologies, the Library strengthens knowledge sharing through national and international collaborations while promoting information literacy, reading habits, and lifelong learning.
