EMU Holds a Press Conference Regarding the International Summer School

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) held a press conference on Wednesday, 7 May 2025 at 03:00 p.m. regarding the International Summer School. In the said conference, various information on the scope of the summer school, its educational programs, social and cultural activities and special camp practices were shared with the participants. To be held with the main sponsorship of Noyanlar Group of Companies, the International Summer School will take place with an extensive program and scope. The said meeting was attended by university officials, members of the press and representatives of relevant units.

Important Information about the Scope and Goals of the Summer School Shared

EMU Vice Rector for Promotion and Institutional Communication Prof. Dr. Ali Öztüren delivered the opening speech of the press conference concerning the EMU International Summer School, acknowledging the significant effort put into preparing the program. Prof. Dr. Öztüren conveyed his gratitude to the team who participated in this extensive project.

Stressing that EMU is the first university of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus which has contributed to the city of Famagusta and the country over the course of its 46 years of history, Prof. Dr. Öztüren said that, with this experience, they will be launching a completely new International Summer School program in 2025. Prof. Dr. Öztüren noted that this year’s program has been designed to be more extensive and thrilling, adding that the goal of the press conference was to update both the public and stakeholders.

Sharing that they expect participation from a wide range of countries, Prof. Dr. Öztüren added; “While July and August will be the peak months of the program, EMU plans to welcome these international groups through events taking place throughout the entire year”. Moreover, Prof. Dr. Öztüren reminded that the programs of the Summer School are open to anyone aged 10 and above, and are designed to appeal to a broad range of people, including employees, retirees, and workers.

Security is within the Top Priorities

With over 40 programs available, security has been addressed as one of the top priorities in the Summer School. Prof. Dr. Öztüren noted that the Summer School team has taken a very careful and thorough approach to this issue, emphasizing that EMU provides extensive accommodation options, with the ability to host more than 10,000 people. In this regard, Prof. Dr. Öztüren mentioned that children attending the Summer School, along with their families, can be hosted together, and special programs have been designed for family members as well.

Numerous Package Program Options

As part of the International Summer School, various package programs have been designed in accordance with the needs of participants. Programs are available with or without meals, and with or without accommodation. Furthermore, families with more than one child can take advantage of benefits like sibling discounts.

Over 1,000 Participation Expected

In a statement released, it was specified that, over 1,000 participants aged 10 and above from numerous countries, including Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Türkiye, Belarus, China, and Germany, are expected to be hosted at the EMU campus this year. Attendees of the International Summer School will not only engage in educational programs that foster their academic growth but also have the chance to explore the culture of the TRNC in depth.

Language Education Programs to be offered

In the said meeting, it was also stated that, alongside General English and Turkish courses, participants will also have access to IELTS/TOEFL preparation courses.

The General English courses to be carried out by EMU Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School, will offer programs with 3 different duration options: 2 weeks, 3 weeks, or 4 weeks. Classes will take place in person five days a week, from 09:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The 2-week sessions will run in four periods: 6–19 July 2025; 20 July – 2 August 2025; 3 – 16 August 2025; and 17 – 30 August 2025. The 3-week sessions will be available in two periods: 6–26 July, 2025, and 27 July – 16 August 2025. The 4-week program will start on 6 July 2025, and conclude on 2 August 2025. Upon completion of the program, participants will receive internationally recognized certificates.

On the other hand, the General Turkish course has been specifically designed for foreign students whose native language is not Turkish. The course will be held five days a week, from 09:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day. The 2-week programs will be offered in two sessions: 20 July – 2 August 2025, and 17 – 30 August 2025, while the 3-week program will take place from 6 – 26 July 2025. Through this program, international students will have the opportunity to closely explore the Turkish language and culture, as well as actively use Turkish in daily life.

Barrier-Free Camp and Health Camp Introduced

At the press conference, the Barrier-Free Camp, designed for individuals with special needs, and the Health Camp, which focuses on physical and mental well-being, were also introduced. The Health Camp, being held for the first time this year, will run from 3–16 August 2025, five days a week, from 09:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day. The program will offer a variety of activities, including yoga, pilates, fitness, healthy living seminars, and outdoor walks. Additionally, there will be hands-on training on topics such as healthy eating, stress management, and body awareness. The Barrier-Free Camp will take place from 20 July– 2 August 2025.

Career Development and Internship Opportunities

It was announced that short-term internships and training programs will begin in May as part of the Summer School. These programs will welcome participants from a variety of professions, including teachers and finance experts.
