“Famagusta City Silhouette Work” project has been put into practice within the scope of the “History of Interior Architecture – I” course carried out by Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Faculty of Architecture, Department of Interior Architecture academic staff member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zehra Öngül. As part of the project, works of 2nd year students of EMU Department of Interior Architecture was put on exhibition on Wednesday, 25 December 2024 at EMU Faculty of Architecture Exhibition Hall.

Historical Heritage of Famagusta Highlighted

As part of their semester projects, the students created two or three dimensional silhouettes of 10 structures which hold special significance for the city of Famagusta. The focal point of the project included iconic structures that reflect the city’s historical essence, including the Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque, the Venetian Palace, the Kara Gate, Othello Castle, the city walls, and the historic Sycamore Tree in the town square. With 70 distinct works completed, the project successfully highlighted the rich historical heritage of Famagusta.

The exhibition was attended by Famagusta Mayor Dr. Süleyman Uluçay, Chair of EMU Department of Interior Architecture Assoc. Prof. Dr. Afet Coşkun, Vice Chair Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahenk Yılgın Damgacı, Project Supervisor at the Municipality of Famagusta Master Architect Ali Sarıyel, Chair of Association of Famagusta City Museum (MAKEMUD) Prof. Dr. Uğur U. Dağlı and MAKEMUD member Hasan Atlı.

Visitors from the Municipality of Famagusta and MAKEMUD praised the works of the studens as highly successful and expressed their openness to collaborating with the EMU Faculty of Architecture in every possible way. They also proposed showcasing the exhibited pieces at different locations throughout Famagusta, highlighting the importance of sharing these creations with the local community.
