Following the 2024-2025 Academic Year Student Council elections held at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), a Handover Ceremony was held at the Social and Cultural Activities Directorate. At the ceremony which was attended by EMU Vice Rector for Promotion and Institutional Communication Prof. Dr. Ali Öztüren, plaques of appreciation were presented to the Student Council Members who completed their duty, and the new administration took over the task.
During the ceremony, Dilara Aydın, who held the position of Student Council Secretary General both in the previous and current terms, delivered a speech on behalf of Mehmet Zeki Arslan, the former president of the 2023-2024 Academic Year Student Council. Aydın shared that throughout their tenure, they had worked hard to provide the best service to their fellow students. Aydın also wished success to the newly elected Student Council President and members, expressing her belief that they would accomplish significant achievements.
2024-2025 Academic Year Student Council President Serkan Alper Aslan also delivered a speech, wishing the new council to be beneficial to all and expressing that they will work hard on fulfilling the duties of the council to the fullest. Aslan thanked the former President and members of the Student Council for their efforts and contributions.
“A Significant and Valuable Responsibility”
Making remarks during the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Ali Öztüren congratulated the new student council and wished them success during their tenure. Prof. Dr. Ali Öztüren pointed out that the students are the most crucial element for the university, and in this regard, the Student Council has an important responsibility in representing all students. Prof. Dr. Öztüren acknowledged the impressive and meaningful work done by the former Student Council and wished the new council a successful term ahead. Prof. Dr. Öztüren also highlighted that the members of the Student Council dedicate their personal time to this role, emphasizing that it is a significant and valuable responsibility.

EMU Board of Trustees (VYK) President Dr. Erdal Özcenk, who could not attend the Student Council Handover Ceremony due to his busy schedule, sent a message to the student which said; “I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Mehmet Zeki Arslan, the President of the Student Council, for successfully fulfilling his responsibilities during the 2023-2024 Academic Year, and through him, to all the members of the previous Student Council Board. I also want to express my sincere thanks for their valuable contributions to all students at our university. Today, the new Student Council for the 2024-2025 Academic Year takes over. I warmly congratulate the new Student Council President, Mr. Serkan Alper Aslan, and all the newly appointed Council Members, wishing them great success in their new roles. May your path be clear and your luck abundant. I greet you all with love and respect”.
