Acting Rector of Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University Prof. Dr. Metin Orbay paid a courtesy visit to Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç. Prof. Dr. Orbay was in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as part of the congress titled “Political Economy of the Eastern Mediterranean and the TRNC” organized by the EMU Faculty of Business and Economics in collaboration with the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University, with support from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).
Taking place on Thursday, 17 October 2024 at 09:30 a.m., the said visit was attended by EMU Vice Rector for Promotion and Institutional Communication Prof. Dr. Ali Öztüren, Dean of EMU Faculty of Business and Economics Prof. Dr. Mustafa Besim, Vice Dean Assist. Prof. Dr. Yenal Süreç, Dean of Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Prof. Dr. Fırat Purtaş, Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Hakan Dikmen and officials from the Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University.
During the visit, Prof. Dr. Orbay shared insights about Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University and highlighted the significance of internationalization. Expressing his pleasure in collaborating with Eastern Mediterranean University, the first state university in the TRNC, known for its substantial international recognition. Moreover, Prof. Dr. Orbay conveyed his appreciation to EMU for their warm hospitality.
Prof. Dr. Kılıç also expressed his contentment on organizing the congress in partnership with Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University, stressing that EMU has consistently prioritized academic initiatives. Prof. Dr. Kılıç shared comprehensive information about EMU, mentioning that throughout its 45-year educational history, the university has been the host of many national and international events. Emphasizing that the Faculty of Business and Economics is one of EMU’s leading faculties, Prof. Dr. Kılıç noted that the faculty’s achievements on the international stage, its rankings, and its publications demonstrate its success.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Besim also stated their contentment on organizing the congress in collaboration with Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University and underscored possible collaborations that can be initiated between the two educational institutions within the upcoming days. Prof. Dr. Besim highlighted that both educational institutions could mutually benefit in several areas, noting that EMU prioritizes research and teaching, a commitment recognized by various international ranking bodies and accreditations.
Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University Prof. Dr. Fırat Purtaş expressed his appreciation to those who contributed to the organization of the congress in partnership with EMU. Moreover, Prof. Dr. Purtaş noted their satisfaction in hosting the second edition of the event, which had taken place in Ankara the previous year, alongside EMU. Prof. Dr. Purtaş thanked EMU for their hospitality and expressed hopes for the continuation of academic collaborations through bilateral partnerships. At the conclusion of the visit, Prof. Dr. Kılıç presented a traditional Cypriot souvenir to Prof. Dr. Orbay.
