Students Placed in the Competition Held as Part of the GIT Project Carried Out in Collaboration with EMU and MAKAMER and Sponsored by Telsim, Visited the Vodafone Office in Türkiye

In collaboration with Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), School of Computing and Technology (SCT) and, Famagusta Women’s Center Association (MAKAMER) and, within the scope of the “Girls in Information and Technology (GIT) Project”, a reels contest, sponsored by TRNC Telsim Vodafone, with the theme of “Technology Looking For Its Stars” was organized for girls studying at high schools. The students placed in the contest visited Vodafone Türkiye’s Maslak Office.

Within the scope of the visit, succesful students Feyziye Nur Atalay, Mila Naz Bıyık, Nisa Mazes Boran and Özgü Ertoprak met with the artificial intelligence team.

During the visit to Türkiye, which included General Manager of TRNC Telsim Sefer Tüz, Corporate Communications Manager of Telsim Nil Zorlu Atai, EMU School of Computing, GIT Project Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nazife Dimililer, and lecturers Özlem Görkan Evre and Halide Sarıçizmeli, students had a pleasant conversations with Vodafone Türkiye CEO Engin Aksoy and Executive Vice Presidents Hana Jalel, Ayşegül Arıcan Şeker, and Meltem Bakiler Şahin. Moreover, the Director of the Artificial Intelligence Unit Şeniz Gayde Ayata provided information to the girls about ‘Big Data and Artificial Intelligence’ while Fatma Bal from the Human Resources team shared insights on Employer Branding and Career Planning.

EMU SCT team made statements on the topic saying; “We came back from our visit to the Vodafone Maslak Office and Teknopark, sponsored by TRNC Telsim Vodafone, with a very positive experience. It was evident that Vodafone fosters a human-centered approach in their professional work environment, quickly embracing technological advancements. Notable features included the nursing room and the high percentage of female employees, reflecting their commitment to enhancing women’s roles in the industry. The warm reception we received left us highly satisfied. We extend our gratitude to the entire Vodafone team”.

“Inspiring Experiences”

Officials from MAKAMER stated that the GIT project carried out in collaborations of EMU and MAKAMER since 2021 – 2022 Academic Year, aims to guide girls to the professions of future, underscoring that they have reached out to total of 19 high schools and 380 students. MAKAMER officials said; “The support of TRNC Telsim Vodafone throughout this project was immensely important to us. During our visit, our award-winning students had the chance to connect with senior female executives, which offered them inspiring experiences. We would like to express our gratitude to everyone involved”.

The trip was an inspiring experience for me. The “Big Data and Artificial Intelligence” presentation of Vodafone advanced my perception on the future of technology. Adding more, Career Planning presentation also helped me gain a new perspective. I thank everyone who had this experience possible. I hope this success also inspires girls in the future.

Mila Naz BIYIK – 19 Mayıs Turkish Maarif College (Runner-up)

During our visit to the Vodafone office in Maslak, I was struck by how it felt more like a cozy environment than a conventional office. The space caters to employees’ personal needs while fostering a pleasant work atmosphere. We genuinely appreciate everyone who contributed to the tour, providing us with memorable experiences and valuable insights into technology.

I had a great experience starting from the moment we landed in Istanbul. With my teachers and friends, we had an amazing time. Being able to have a tour of the Vodafone main building and receiving information about artificial intelligence was very precious. I am very thankful for this experience.
