Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç released a message on the occasion of 30 August – Victory Day. The said message by Prof. Dr. Kılıç reads as follows:

“I warmly celebrate 30 August Victory Day, a powerful symbol of the Turkish Nation’s fight for independence. This day stands as a pivotal moment on the road to the founding of the Republic of Turkey. During the Great Offensive that began on 26 August, 1922, under the command of the esteemed leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the Turkish nation bravely battled against occupation, risking everything for their homeland, and secured a significant victory on 30 August, 1922. This victory symbolizes the unity and strength of the Turkish Nation, serving as the greatest representation of its determination and belief. The 30th of August Victory, which Atatürk called “an everlasting monument to the Turkish nation’s quest for freedom and independence”, led to the decisive defeat of the Greek army and the complete liberation of Turkish territory with the recapture of Izmir on 9th of September. Atatürk highlighted his confidence and commitment to his nation with the words, “Great victories can only be achieved by great nations”. This monumental victory, achieved 102 years ago amid great challenges and with lives sacrificed for independence, elevated Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the Turkish Nation in the eyes of the world.

As we mark the 102nd anniversary of the 30 August Victory, I wholeheartedly celebrate our Victory Day once again, honoring with deep gratitude, respect, and reverence Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades who bestowed this extraordinary victory upon us, along with all the heroes and martyrs who fought for our homeland.”
