Artistic Heritage of Baki Boğaç to be Passed Down Future Generations Through the Protocol Signed at EMU

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) signed a collaboration protocol with Ceren Boğaç and Barçın Boğaç, the beneficiaries of late artist Baki Boğaz, concerning the transfer of Baki Boğaç’s artwork into the “Eastern Mediterranean University Art Work Collection”. Said protocol was signed by Ceren Boğaç and Barçık Boğaz and, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç at EMU Rector’s Office building. The protocol aims to ensure the preservation, display and the transfer of artworks on to future generations.

Present during the signing session were, EMU Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu, EMU Vice Rector for Promotion and Institutional Communication Prof. Dr. Ali Öztüren, and EMU Art and Design Center’s Art Coordinator Zehra Şonya.

During his speech at the signing ceremony, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç noted that the protocol was established to honour the legacy of one of the nation’s distinguished artists, Baki Boğaç, to introduce him to future generations, and to preserve his works for the future. Prof. Dr. Kılıç highlighted that the protocol will not only support education and academic development, but will also enrich the artistic dimension of society. Prof. Dr. Kılıç also informed attendees about Baki Boğaç, expressing that the initiative reflects the university’s artistic vision and its commitment to art, and wished for the protocol to bring positive outcomes.

Ceren Boğaç also made remarks during the signing session, expressing their gratitude and delight that their father Baki Boğaç’s works will come to life at EMU. She added that seeing the artworks become part of EMU’s artistic archive and leave a lasting legacy for future generations carries great significance for their family.

Following his sister’s address, Barçın Boğaç also expressed that he shared his sister’s feeling and thanked EMU for their sentimentality: “Nowhere else but EMU could we have safeguarded this spiritual legacy. EMU is like a home to us, an institution that truly values art. We are deeply grateful to EMU for this opportunity”.

Zehra Şonya, Art Coordinator at EMU Art and Design Center, expressed her gratitude to Baki Boğaç’s beneficiaries for agreeing to have his works displayed at EMU. She shared her delight that two of his pieces will be added to the EMU Art Collection and highlighted the artist’s importance to the Famagusta art community.
