The “Career Talks” events organized by the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Health Sciences brought students together with prominent figures who have distinguished themselves through their success stories in various fields. The events, featuring experienced speakers from academia, entrepreneurship, sports, and personal development, provided valuable insights into career planning while also helping students gain diverse perspectives.
“Being on the Journey”
As the first guest speaker of the event series, Assist. Prof. Dr. Gülcem Sala Razı delivered a presentation titled “Being on the Journey”, in which she underscored that building a career extends beyond achieving a specific goal and should be viewed as an ongoing journey of learning and self-development. Sharing insights from her own experiences, Assist. Prof. Dr. Razı noted that the challenges encountered throughout this journey play a vital role in fostering personal growth.
“Technology-Based Entrepreneurship”
The second event featured Developmental Physiotherapist Musa Can Minaz, one of the founders of CarbonEmit, who met with students to discuss the concept of technology-based entrepreneurship. In his presentation, he emphasized the intersection of healthcare, technology, and entrepreneurship, highlighting the significant role that innovative ideas play in addressing societal challenges. Stressing the importance of encouraging young people to develop technology-driven projects, Minaz also shared valuable insights from his own entrepreneurial journey.
“Five Fields, One Career Journey”
The final guest speaker of the Career Talks series was Merve Çelebi, a member of the Turkish National Beach Volleyball Team, entrepreneur, volleyball coach, and educator. In her talk titled “Five Fields, One Career Journey”, Çelebi shared her diverse career path spanning from professional sports to entrepreneurship. She emphasized that experiences gained across different fields complement one another and equip individuals with a broader and stronger perspective. Throughout the session, she highlighted that discipline, determination, and a commitment to continuous self-improvement are the key factors in achieving success.
Online Seminars Held
As part of the Career Talks program, an online seminar was also held featuring Physiotherapist Umut Şahin, a physiotherapist at Fenerbahçe Sports Club, who met with students. In his presentation titled “Being a Physiotherapist in Professional Football”, Şahin discussed the knowledge, skills, and responsibilities required to work as a physiotherapist within professional sports organizations. He emphasized the vital role physiotherapists play in safeguarding athletes’ health and sustaining their performance. Drawing on his professional experience, Şahin shared practical insights and valuable guidance for students aspiring to pursue a career in sports physiotherapy.
The Faculty of Health Sciences Career Talks provided students with not only valuable professional perceptions but also the opportunity to shape their future aspirations through inspiring personal success stories. Bringing together speakers from diverse sectors, the event series demonstrated that there is no single path to career success while emphasizing the importance of courage, perseverance, and innovative thinking in achieving one’s goals.
Through these events, students gained more than academic and professional knowledge; they also found renewed inspiration and motivation to pursue their ambitions with confidence as the professionals of tomorrow.
