EMU Graduates Shared Their Experiences with New Generation Physiotherapists within the Scope of EMU 13th International Career Days

The 13th International Career Days co-organized by the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation and, Alumni Communication and Career Research Directorate (MIKA) was held at the Champion Angels Amphitheatre. Said event featured expert speakers, including several EMU graduates, shared their insights and experiences with the students.

Dean of EMU Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Mehtap Malkoç, Vice Dean of EMU Faculty of Health Sciences Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yasin Yurt, Chair of EMU Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Prof. Dr. Mitat Koz, academic and administrative personnel member as well as students attended the said event.

“A Profession with a Broad Range of Career Paths”

Delivering the opening speech, EMU Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Chair Prof. Dr. Mitat Koz emphasized that career planning is a crucial stage in shaping an individual’s future. Underlining that physiotherapy is a profession with a wide array of career opportunities, Prof. Dr. Koz pointed out that the field is no longer limited to patient treatment alone; today, it serves the health and well-being of children, the elderly, athletes, individuals with disabilities, and even animals—making it a diverse and inclusive health profession. Prof. Dr. Koz also underscored the career prospects the department offers, drawing attention to the importance of choosing a path one is passionate about. Prof. Dr. Koz noted that events like Career Days are designed to help prepare students for the future by exposing them to real-life success stories and helping them identify potential opportunities and challenges after graduation. He concluded his speech by expressing his gratitude to the speakers and everyone involved in making the event possible.

As one of the featured speakers, Dr. Physiotherapist Şahveren Yücel, President of the Turkish Cypriot Physiotherapists Association, delivered a presentation entitled “Kıbrıs türk Fizyoterapistler Derneği ve Çalışmaları / The Turkish Cypriot Physiotherapists Association and Its Work”, where she discussed the organization’s core mission, highlighted its ongoing initiatives, and shared its forward-looking vision for the advancement of the physiotherapy profession.

EMU Graduate Experts Shared Experiences and Insights

Dr. Physiotherapist Batuhan Dericioğlu, an EMU graduate, recounted his professional journey and experiences at Physioart Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation, and Health Clinic, providing students with meaningful insights into life after graduation. Likewise, fellow EMU graduate Specialist Physiotherapist Emine Kütüküt shared the valuable knowledge she has gained at Physio-Hill Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center, offering guidance to new graduates navigating their early careers.

Participating virtually, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ceren Yarar Fisher, currently engaged in academic research at The Ohio State University’s Departments of Neuroscience and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, delivered a presentation titled “A Successful Career Journey Beginning as a Physiotherapist”, in which she highlighted her international academic path and professional experiences.

The event, enriched by real-world perspectives, provided aspiring physiotherapists with valuable direction and inspiration for their future careers.
