Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) left a lasting mark on the 2025–2026 University Sports Games Season with its achievements. Succeeding to finish in the top three in many categories, EMU concluded the season with a double triumph by claiming the overall championship titles in both the women’s and men’s categories.
In the competition organized by the Northern Cyprus University Sports Federation, EMU achieve outstanding results across a wide range of disciplines, including athletics, swimming, futsal, and volleyball. Earlier results released by the Federation had already highlighted EMU’s strong performances in athletics, swimming, volleyball, and badminton, while the overall standings announced at the end of the season once again confirmed the University’s consistent excellence and sustained success in university sports.
EMU – Champion in Various Disciplines
In the women’s category, EMU claimed championship titles in athletics, cycling, volleyball, chess, and swimming, while also finishing in top three places in basketball, futsal, tennis, and several other team sports. In the men’s category, championship victories in athletics, billiards, darts, football, futsal, wrestling, volleyball, and swimming formed the foundation of the University’s overall leadership in the standings. Throughout the season, EMU athletes captured first-place titles in athletics, swimming, and volleyball in both the women’s and men’s competitions. The University also secured the team championship in badminton and achieved numerous podium finishes across a broad range of disciplines, enabling EMU to outperform its rivals and finish at the top of the overall points table.
Award ceremony for achieving universities in the University Sports Games will be held on Thursday, 18 June 2026 at Nicosia Fairgrounds (Lefkoşa Fuar Alanı). Ranking teams and overall champions will be presented with cups and medals at the awards ceremony.
EMU’s achievement of securing the overall championship titles in both the women’s and men’s categories is regarded as a significant outcome of the University’s continued investment in sports and the dedication and disciplined efforts demonstrated by its athletes throughout the season. With these outstanding accomplishments, EMU concluded the 2025–2026 University Sports Games season as the most successful institution in Northern Cyprus University Sports.
Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç: “A Shared Source of Pride for the EMU Family”
In his remarks on the matter, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç congratulated the performing athletes, coaches as well as, all academic and administrative personnel contributing to the process. Prof. Dr. Kılıç stated, “As Eastern Mediterranean University, we continue to distinguish ourselves not only through our academic achievements but also through our accomplishments in sports. Being crowned the overall champions in both the women’s and men’s categories at the University Sports Games, while also securing championship titles across various disciplines, is a tremendous source of pride for all of us”.
Stressing that EMU always prioritizes holistic development of its students, Prof. Dr. Kılıç continued, “We firmly believe in the unifying and transformative power of sport. Alongside their academic pursuits, we will continue to provide our students with every opportunity to develop themselves socially, culturally, and athletically. I wholeheartedly congratulate all of our athletes and coaching staff for representing our University with such distinction”.
