The seminar, with Prof. Dr. Dilek Cindoğlu as the speaker, commenced by addressing the difficulties women encounter following war. Prof. Dr. Cindoğlu pointed out that women tend to endure more hardships and trauma from war than men. Prof. Dr. Cindoğlu focused on Syrian migrant women in Turkey and Turkish women, highlighting the competitive relationships that arise between these groups. Moreover Prof. Dr. Cindoğlu noted that Syrian women, facing barriers in the labor market, often feel compelled to marry Turkish men for financial stability. Prof. Dr. Cindoğlu explained that this creates challenges for both Syrian and Turkish women and stressed the importance of better protection for women during and after conflicts.
The seminar proceeded with high engagement from the participants. Prof. Dr. Cindoğlu, moderated by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Sözen, Head of EMU Department of Political Science and International Relations and Chair of EMU CPC, responded to questions on women’s rights and offered suggestions for potential future improvements.
