EMU Faculty of Pharmacy Holds “EMU International Pharmaceurical Sciences Congress”

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) International Pharmaceutical Sciences Congress (IPSC 2025) organized by the EMU Faculty of Pharmacy took place on Wednesday, 14 May 2025 at 08:30 a.m.at the Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center. Featuring various presentations, whether online or face-to-face, the congress contributed to scientific and professional development and provided an international scientific sharing platform for students and academia.

The congress hosted scientists and researchers from various parts of the world, including Switzerland, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Burundi, Cameron, Cyprus, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Ruanda, Sudan, Thailand, Tunisia, Türkiye, Uganda and Zimbabwe. This broad participation enriched the congress with a global perspective, offering attendees the chance to engage with up-to-date scientific research from around the world.

Ozan Gülcan, many members of academia, administrative personnel and students attended the congress.

“We are honoured to be Hosting an International Congress”

Commenced with the observation of a minute of silence and national anthem, the event continued with a musical recital led by Choir Master Erkan Dağlı and a choir consisting of EMU Faculty of Education, Fine Arts Education Department, Music Teacher Program students. Delivering the opening speech of the event, EMU Faculty of Pharmacy Dean and Congress Chair Prof. Dr. H. Ozan Gülcan began his delivery by thanking the participants of the event. Prof. Dr. Gülcan highlighted that the congress was held in celebration of 14 May – Pharmacy Day, and expressed the profound pride and excitement of hosting an international congress for the first time. Prof. Dr. Gülcan emphasized the longstanding heritage of pharmacy as a profession rooted in the history of humanity, and noted that the EMU Faculty of Pharmacy has educated students from 36 different countries, producing a total of 1,175 graduates to date. Prof. Dr. Gülcan also underscored the faculty’s commitment to excellence, stating that it delivers education at a global standard and recently attained a significant international achievement by earning accreditation from the U.S.-based Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).

“An Important Scientific Event”

Also delivering a speech, Famagusta Mayor Dr. Süleyman Uluçay congratulated Eastern Mediterranean University and the Faculty of Pharmacy who hosted the said event, expressing his joy at being part of such a distinguished scientific gathering. He noted that Famagusta, as the second-largest city in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, stands out not only for its rich cultural and historical legacy but also for its vibrant and productive nature. Dr. Uluçay also emphasized the importance of peace and cooperation, reminding attendees of the city’s long-standing role as a cradle of civilizations, and wished everyone a rewarding and enjoyable congress experience.

“Advances the International Vision of EMU”

In his remarks, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç conveyed his pride and excitement in organizing the EMU International Pharmaceutical Sciences Congress 2025. Marking the occasion’s significance, which aligned with National Pharmacy Day, Prof. Dr. Kılıç extended his heartfelt greetings to all scholars and healthcare professionals contributing to the advancement of pharmaceutical sciences. Prof. Dr. Kılıç highlighted that the congress, which brought together researchers from more than twenty countries, served not only as a platform for rich scientific dialogue but also as a testament to EMU’s expanding global outlook. He underscored the university’s strategic location in Eastern Cyprus and its vibrant, multicultural academic community representing over 100 nations, offering quality education in both English and Turkish. Furthermore, he pointed out that the hybrid format of the congress reflected EMU’s dedication to digital innovation and its strong commitment to equal access in education. Prof. Dr. Kılıç concluded by expressing sincere appreciation to all academic and administrative personnel involved in the organization, as well as to the participating speakers and contributors.

“A Noteworthy Opportunity to Foster Institutional Academic Partnerships”

Unable to attend the event due to overseas commitments, Dr. Erdal Özcenk, President of the Board of Trustees, shared a message on the occasion of the congress organized by the EMU Faculty of Pharmacy. In his message, he conveyed his pride in EMU’s continued leadership in hosting high-level international scientific gatherings and extended his appreciation to all academic and administrative staff who contributed to the successful organization of the event. Dr. Özcenk highlighted the universal nature of science and noted that the participation of researchers from diverse countries presents valuable opportunities for academic collaboration and the exchange of knowledge. He further emphasized that EMU’s ongoing achievements in health sciences continue to elevate its global academic standing, and concluded by wishing all participants a fruitful and impactful IPSC 2025.

Over 100 Presentations

During the event chaired by the Dean of EMU Faculty of Pharmacy Prof. Dr. H. Ozan Gülcan, over 100 presentations were delivered in three different meeting halls by expert scientists. Bringing together leading experts not only from key pharmaceutical fields, such as Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy, and Pharmaceutical Technology, but also from across the broader health sciences, the event served as a vital forum for scientific dialogue and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Gala Dinner Organized

In recognition of their valuable contributions to the EMU International Pharmaceutical Sciences Congress 2025, speakers and participants were presented with commemorative plaques during a gala dinner held on Tuesday, 14 May 2025, at The Arkın İskele Hotel. The plaques were awarded by EMU Acting Rector, Prof. Dr. Osman M. Karatepe, together with Congress Chair and Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Hayrettin Ozan Gülcan. Beyond honoring academic contributions, the gala evening provided a warm and memorable setting that fostered meaningful connections and camaraderie among attendees.
