Blood Donation Campaign Held at EMU

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Red Crescent Student Club operating under EMU Social and Cultural Activities Directorate organized a blood donation campaign in collaboratin with North Cyprus Turkish Red Crescent. The 3-day campaign took place at EMU Atatürk Square with the slogan of “Birbirimize Candan Bağlıyız – Linked by Our Hearts”. The campaign received great interest and total of 120 units of blood were donated.

Visiting the blood donation area during the campaign, EMU Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu said; “Firstly, I would like to thanks North Cyprus Turkish Red Crescent and EMU Red Crescent for organizing such an event. Blood donation means even better health for healthy people and life for sick people. Therefore, promoting blood donation and giving blood regularly is of great importance. As EMU, we will continue to lead events like this one”.

Also making remarks on the topic, North Cyprus Turkish Red Crescent Blood Services Coordinator Özge Er said; “We extend our thanks to Eastern Mediterranean University for opening their doors to us for 3 days. We are here for the blood donation campaign carried out by EMU Red Crescent Student Club. We can easily say that EMU Red Crescent Club is the most active Red Crescent club in the country. Minimum of two blood donation events, both in Fall and Spring semester, are organized per year. Three people’s lives can be saved with one unite of blood. Therefore, we call everyone to donate blood and thank those who have contributed to the campaign”.

Blood Donation Campaign Held at EMU

Cyprus Turkish Youth Red Crescent Chairperson Gülpenbe Şakrak expressed her feelings about the campaign by saying; “I fulfilled the chairperson duty of EMU Red Crescent Student Club for the last 2 years. Now, we have formed a youth organization under the Turkish Red Crescent in Cyprus. As young people, we are actively engaged in various social responsibility projects throughout the island. I would like to express my gratitude to all my university friends who have supported blood donation”.

The donors who took part in the event shared that donating blood is a fulfilling experience and highlighted the importance of such awareness in saving lives. They also stressed that people should not be afraid of or avoid giving blood.

The North Cyprus Turkish Red Crescent expressed their pleasure in once again receiving support from EMU for this significant event, as in previous years. They highlighted that such collaborations offer a valuable opportunity to increase public awareness and enhance understanding in the fight against diseases.
