EMU Department of Architecture Accredited by MIAK-MAK for The Third Time

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Faculty of Architecture, Department of Architecture has once again been accredited by the Association for Accreditation of Architectural Education (MIAK-MAK) which evaluates architectural education intuitions in Türkiye within the scope of the universal criteria. Being awarded with the said accreditation for the third time in a row, EMU Department of Architecture will hold the accreditation for a duration of 6 years, until 2030. With this achievement, the high education quality and academic standards of EMU Department of Architecture was once again affirmed.

Being the first architecture program in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) that received the MIAK accreditation, EMU Department of Architecture was initially awarded with the accreditation in 2011. Moreover, EMU Department of Architecture is also among the first architectural programs within Türkiye to receive the prestigious accreditation. This significant success showcases the leadership of EMU in the field of architectural education and its undertaking to offer internationally recognized and competitive academic experiences.

Graduates from MiAK-accredited programs, which represent a benchmark of excellence in architectural education and guarantee adherence to standards in education, research, and student development, are acknowledged for their expertise and abilities. This accreditation paves the way for enhanced career opportunities for graduates on both local and international levels.

EMU Faculty of Architecture, Department of Architecture’s Chair Prof. Dr. Rafooneh Mokhtarshahi Sani expressed that EMU Department of Architecture is not only leading the architecture education in the TRNC but also in the whole region. Stressing the challenging and extensive process of MIAK accreditation, Prof. Dr. Sani stated that this accreditation reflects the department’s purpose of maintaining its education quality and its continuous efforts taken in terms of advancing it.

Speaking on the topic, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç said that the third consecutive accreditation awarded to the EMU Department of Architecture is proof of its preserved quality. Prof. Dr. Kılıç highlighted that this achievement is a point of pride not just for the Department of Architecture but for the whole EMU community. Conveying their pride in this success and noting the important impact that such accreditations have on enhancing the international student profile, Prof. Dr. Kılıç also expressed his appreciation to all those who contributed to this effort.
