EMU Hosts the Union of Turkish – Islamic Cultural Associations in Europe

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) hosted a group of nearly 60 people from the Union of Turkish-Islamic Cultural Associations in Europe (ATIB). The meeting took place on Friday, 21 February 2025 at EMU Senate Meeting Hall where ATIB Chairperson İmam Cengiz and the visiting delegation were provided information on the academic and social opportunities of the university. EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç and EMU Vice Rector for Promotion and Institutional Communication Prof. Dr. Ali Öztüren presented various insights on EMU during the said meeting.

ATIP Chairperson İmam Cengiz hoped that the Cyprus Workshop which commenced on that day to be beneficial for all. Conveying their contentment on organizing such an event in Cyprus, Cengiz thanked EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç for their kind hospitality. Touching on the importance of Cyprus for the Turkish Muslims living in Europe, Cengiz stressed that the island holds a great sentimental value.

Also addressing the participant of the meeting, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç expressed the university’s pleasure on hosting the delegation from ATIB. Underscoring that EMU is an important educational institution which has strong ties with the motherland Türkiye, Prof. Dr. Kılıç provided information on the university’s international achievements and the academic opportunities it offers. Mentioning about the strategical and cultural significance of Türkiye over Cyprus, Prof. Dr. Kılıç expressed his hope for a beneficial and successful workshop which was organized by ATIB. Prof. Dr. Kılıç concluded his speech by stating their desire to continue such visits and collaborations with ATIB.

Following the speeches, EMU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Öztüren delivered an extensive presentation on the academic programs, research activities and campus facilities at the university. During the visit, indications were made regarding a possible cooperation protocol that may be signed between EMU and ATIB in the future. The event ended with a group photo session.
