Consistently been recognized among the world’s leading universities by various independent international ranking organizations, Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) has once again achieved significant success in the field of Hospitality and Tourism, securing top positions in different categories both globally and in Europe.
In the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2026, announced by China-based ShanghaiRanking, EMU was ranked among the world’s top 75 universities in the field of Hospitality and Tourism Management, placing in the 51–75 band. EMU was the only university from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Türkiye, and the island of Cyprus to be included in the ranking in this field. Among the approximately 5,000 universities from 100 different countries considered to have the potential to be ranked, around 2,000 universities ultimately qualified for inclusion.
EMU has been continuously ranked in Hospitality and Tourism Management in the 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026 editions of the ranking, outperforming numerous universities in the United States and Europe.
In the 2026 ShanghaiRanking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, EMU was evaluated across the key categories of “World-Class Faculty,” “World-Class Academic Output,” “High-Quality Research,” “Research Impact,” and “International Collaboration”. In the field of Hospitality and Tourism Management, EMU was assessed based on its research publications in leading international academic journals (Q1) over a five-year period, international academic awards received, citations of its academics’ work (excluding self-citations), and academic collaborations with universities in different countries around the world.
EMU Ranks 9th in the World for Research Impact
Consistently making its country proud through its academic achievements, EMU ranked 9th in the world and 2nd in Europe in the “Research Impact” category in the field of Hospitality and Tourism Management, scoring 17.5 out of 20.
EMU also achieved a strong ranking in the “International Collaboration” category in Hospitality and Tourism Management, scoring 9.6 out of 10 based on its international collaborations. This placed EMU 4th in the world and 2nd in Europe.
In the “High-Quality Research” category for Hospitality and Tourism Management, EMU ranked 45th worldwide and 5th in Europe, with a score of 31.5. In the “World-Class Academic Output” category, EMU ranked 39th in the world and 4th in Europe, with a score of 29.6.

ShanghaiRanking first began publishing global university rankings by academic subject in 2009. Following the introduction of an enhanced methodology, the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) was first published in 2016. The 2026 GRAS ranks universities across 57 subjects covering Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences. Nearly 2,000 universities from 5,000 universities across 100 countries and regions are included in the ranking.
