Eastern Mediterranean University’s (EMU) licensed athlete Ada Kafa paid a visit to EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç on Thursday, 12 September 2024 at 10:30 a.m. Present during the said visit were; Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu, Sports Affairs Coordinator Aydın Kayol and Athletic Trainer Hasan Maydon.
The Goal is set for European Championship and 2028 Olympics
During the visit, achievements made in 2024 were discussed. Ada, who has achieved several significant records, set new TRNC U16 records with a time of 2:21.99 in the 800 meters and 43.19 in the 300 meters during the U16 Clubs Turkish Athletics Championship in Ankara. Furthermore, at the U16-U18 Athletics Turkish Championship in Izmir, she secured 4th place in the 300 meters with a time of 43.00 and 5th place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.78. Having broken records in the TRNC with these performances, Ada Kafa announced that she is continuing her efforts to set new records.
Giving an address during the visit, EMU Athletic Trainer Maydon conveyed his belief that Kafa will score many more accomplishments, stressing that her achievements are the result of disciplined effort. Maydon mentioned that their targets for 2024-2025 include competing in the U18 400-meter hurdles at the European Championship and setting new records. Maydon also emphasized their goal for Kafa to qualify for the Turkish National Team, noting that they have already begun preparations for this. Furthermore, he shared that they are aiming for Kafa to participate in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, USA.
Prof. Dr. Kılıç also delivered a speech and congratulated Kafa for her success, underscoring the pride EMU takes in from these achievements. Stating that EMU has always supported sports and athletes, Prof. Dr. Kılıç conveyed that as EMU, the university is ready to support Kafa in her preparations for the European Championship and 2028 Olympics as part of her 4-year projects. Noting that EMU is always there to support top-ranking athletes like Ada Kafa, Prof. Dr. Kılıç wished Kafa success in her upcoming endeavors. EMU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu and Sports Affairs Coordinator Aydın Kayol congratulated Kafa for achievements, wishing her great success for the future. At the end of the visit, Prof. Dr. Kılıç presented Kafa souvenirs unique to EMU.
