Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Faculty of Health Sciences, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department Chair and International University Sports Federation (FISU) Gender Equality Committee Member Prof. Dr. Mitat Koz attended a meeting held at FISU Headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.
“The Enhancement of Women’s Representation Discussed”
The meeting brought together members of the Gender Equality Committee from seven different countries, including Committee Chair Rosaura Méndez-Gamboa representing Costa Rica and Vice Chair Michelle Tanner from Ireland. Focusing on the advancement of university sports, the discussions addressed the importance of strengthening women’s representation in traditionally male-dominated sports disciplines, particularly within coaching and technical positions.
Within the scope of the meeting, discussions also centered on significant topics aimed at advancing gender equality, such as the importance of quota systems and the introduction of new mechanisms and strategies to expand opportunities for women. Stressing the necessity of long-term cultural and structural transformation, the meeting underscored the goal of developing sustainable equality policies within the university sports environment.
During his engagements in Lausanne, Prof. Dr. Mitat Koz additionally met with Fernando Parente, Deputy Secretary General of the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The meeting included an exchange of views on the procedures and requirements necessary for EMU to receive the “Healthy Campus” certification granted by FISU.
